The foreign language program is based on the belief that the purpose of learning a new language is to communicate with the people who speak it and to understand their cultures. Our program is designed to to help students achieve that goal by getting them to communicate right from the start.
Our program reflects the most current thinking in th foreign language field. It reflects state of the art research on how students acquire languages and what teachers and materials need to do to help them become proficient language users, whether they are using their language orally or for written communication.
The foreign language department promotes communication skills, helps students interpret meaning, teaches towards the whole rather than the parts, and builds an awareness and understanding of cultures. We strive for success and authenticity in learning.

After analyzing various reports on CST, CASHEE, CELDT, F Rate, Common Assessments and student work we will work as a department to support the English Department in raising the scores for Reading Comprehension and improving Writing Skills for CST. We will also support EL students by modifying assignments and assessments as needed to increase understanding and success in class. Our department will also work on reducing the failing rate in World Language by properly placing students/reducing the time gap for non native speakers between classes. Last, we will continue to increase passing rate by increasing consistency from one class to another.Â
